Avalon Park & Preserve is proud to be a part of these unique programs.

Avalon Park's S.T.A.T.E. Program
Inspired by campers’ enthusiasm and the incredible success of Avalon Park and Preserve’s summer Environmental Stewardship program, director Katharine Griffiths has decided to introduce a year-round stewardship organization: Students Taking Action for Tomorrow’s Environment. Program coordinator Rebecca Kassay corresponds with environmentally conscious non-profit organizations, planning hands-on, rewarding volunteer projects. S.T.A.T.E. provides students ages 14-17 from various local school districts an outlet for nature-rooted curiosities, creative energy, and their desire to strengthen their relationship with the local community and ecology.

Avalon Park's Environmental Stewardship Program
In the summer of 2007 Avalon Park initiated its Outdoor Leadership and Environmental Stewardship Program. The brainchild of Avalon director Katharine Griffiths and school teachers Steve Gessler and Doug Elliot, this program was created in an attempt to get youngsters into the outdoors and connected to the environment in which they live. It is our goal that this program will offer youngsters the opportunity to experience the outdoors in new ways and instill a sense of responsibility and ownership through land stewardship in their own community.
