Avalon Park Leadership and Environmental Stewardship Program
In the summer of 2007 Avalon Park initiated its Outdoor Leadership and Environmental Stewardship Program. The brainchild of Avalon director Katharine Griffiths and school teachers Steve Gessler and Doug Elliot, this program was created in an attempt to get kids into the outdoors and connected to the environment in which they live.

Avalon Environmental Stewardship and Outdoor Leadership Program

This program initiated and hosted by Avalon Park & Preserve, will serve to provide school children aged 14-17 an opportunity to participate in an experiential learning program.  During the three week period students will be given the opportunity to participate in classroom lectures, hands on field research and outdoor recreational skills.  Students will be exposed to a variety of environmental educators and professionals who are leaders and innovators in their individual fields.  The goal of this program is to expose the students to the environmental issues surrounding not only their local community but the global community at large.  For more information contact Katharine at 631.689.0619.  Applications and a detailed course description will be available shortly on our website.
