About the Coordinator

A native Saint James resident, Rebecca Kassay began her involvement with Avalon Park and Preserve as an intern counselor for the summer Stewardship program. After receiving her Environmental Studies and Communications degrees at SUNY New Paltz, she spent a summer between a Riverside Park community garden in New York City, and Avalon’s summer camp. Following an organic farming experience in Italy, Rebecca returned to accept a position on the Avalon team, founding S.T.A.T.E. and Avalon’s community garden. Her greatest hope is to inspire students to channel their energy into activities such as food production (think real-life Farmville) and hands-on creative projects, providing opportunities to experience self-satisfaction and pride after a day of hard work. Rebecca is striving to make STATE as fun and rewarding as possible, and looks forward to sharing the marvels of nature with student volunteers!
